Wister Summary

Wister is a small town located in LeFlore County, Oklahoma. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the state, near the Arkansas border. The town was founded in 1901 and named after the Wister family, who were prominent in the area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Wister was 1,859.

Geography

Wister is located at 35°25'25" North, 94°45'45" West (35.423, -94.7625). It is situated in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The town is located on the banks of the Poteau River, which flows through the area.
The climate in Wister is humid subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is around 64°F (18°C). The average annual precipitation is around 45 inches (114 cm).
