Geography
Verden is located at 35°17'25"N 97°51'45"W (35.290278, -97.8625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
History
Verden was founded in 1892 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Chickasha. The town was named after a nearby creek, and the first post office was established in 1893. The town grew quickly, and by 1900, it had a population of over 500.
Verden was a thriving agricultural community in the early 20th century, with cotton, corn, and wheat being the main crops. The town also had a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, and a blacksmith shop.
In the 1920s, the town began to decline as the Great Depression hit the area. Many of the businesses closed, and the population dropped to just over 200 by 1930.
The town began to recover in the 1940s, and by 1950, the population had grown to over 500. The town continued to grow throughout the 1950s and 1960s, and by 1970, the population had reached over 1,000.

As of the 2010 census, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 149 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.0 people per square mile (344.3/km2). There were 233 housing units at an average density of 382.5 per square mile (147.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 81.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 15.2% from other races, and 2.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 22.2% of the population.
There were 212 households, out of which 33.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,000, and the median income for a family was $35,000. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,000.
