Luther Summary

Luther is a small town located in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States. It is situated approximately 20 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The town was founded in 1889 and was named after Martin Luther, the German theologian and leader of the Protestant Reformation. As of the 2010 census, the population of Luther was 1,444.

Geography

Luther is located at 35°45'25" North, 97°20'25" West (35.756944, -97.340278). It is situated in the Cross Timbers region of Oklahoma, which is characterized by rolling hills and wooded areas. The town is located in the watershed of the Deep Fork River, which flows through the town. The elevation of Luther is 1,068 feet above sea level.

Economy

Luther is a small, rural town with a primarily agricultural economy. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The town is also home to a number of churches, including the First Baptist Church of Luther, which was founded in 1889.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,444 people, 545 households, and 393 families residing in Luther. The population density was 545.3 people per square mile (210.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 94.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
