Henryetta Summary

Henryetta is a city located in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, United States. It is the county seat of Okmulgee County. The population was 5,510 at the 2010 census, a decrease of 5.2 percent from 5,812 at the 2000 census.

History

Henryetta was founded in 1902 by the Missouri, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway. The town was named after Henryetta Manning, the daughter of a railroad official. The town was incorporated in Indian Territory in 1903.
Henryetta was the site of a major oil boom in the early 20th century. The town was the site of the first oil well in Oklahoma, which was drilled in 1904. The oil boom brought many people to the area, and the population of Henryetta grew rapidly.

Geography

Henryetta is located in southeastern Oklahoma at 35°25'25" North, 95°59'17" West (35.423, -95.988). It is situated in the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains.
The city is located along U.S. Route 75, which runs north-south through the city. It is also located along State Highway 16, which runs east-west through the city.

Henryetta's economy is largely based on agriculture and oil production. The city is home to several large agricultural operations, including a large cattle ranch and a large poultry farm.

There were 2,346 housing units at an average density of 459.3 per square mile (177.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 73.2% White, 15.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 7.2% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.7% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 16.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
