Glenpool Summary

Glenpool is a city located in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Tulsa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 10,808 at the 2010 census, an increase of 57.4 percent from 7,006 at the 2000 census.

History

Glenpool was founded in 1906 by the Glenpool Oil Company, which was owned by the Osage Indians. The town was named after the nearby Glenpool Creek. The town was incorporated in 1910 and was the first town in Tulsa County to incorporate.

Geography

Glenpool is located at 36°1′45″N 95°56′45″W (36.029167, -95.945556). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), all land.

Economy

Glenpool is home to several major employers, including the Tulsa Port of Catoosa, the Tulsa International Airport, and the Tulsa Technology Center. The city is also home to several small businesses, including a number of restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 7,006 people, 2,541 households, and 1,945 families residing in the city. The population density was 854.3 people per square mile (330.2/km2). There were 2,717 housing units at an average density of 331.3 per square mile (127.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 73.2% White, 5.2% African American, 14.2% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 5.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.3% of the population.
There were 2,541 households, out of which 39.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $46,944. Males had a median income of $35,944 versus $25,944 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,944. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
