Coyle Summary

Coyle is a small town located in Logan County, Oklahoma. It is situated about 20 miles south of Guthrie and about 40 miles north of Oklahoma City. The town was founded in 1891 and was named after the first postmaster, William Coyle. The population of Coyle was 1,092 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Coyle is located at 35°59'25" North, 97°17'45" West (35.990278, -97.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Coyle’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a few restaurants and convenience stores.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,092 people, 431 households, and 305 families residing in the town. The population density was 902.2 people per square mile (348.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 391.2 per square mile (151.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.45% White, 0.09% African American, 1.37% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 2.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.37% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.09.
