Afton is located at 36°41'25"N 94°59'45"W (36.690278, -94.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
Economy
Afton's economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a restaurant, and a gas station. The town also has a small airport, which is used for recreational flying.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.3/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 704.2 per square mile (272.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 92.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races.
