Geography
Wimbledon is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and North Dakota Highway 18, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Devils Lake and about 40 miles (64 km) west of Grand Forks. The city is situated in the Red River Valley, a flat, fertile region of the Great Plains. The Red River of the North, which forms the border between North Dakota and Minnesota, is about 10 miles (16 km) to the east.

History
Wimbledon was founded in 1883 by the Northern Pacific Railway. The city was named after the town of Wimbledon in England. The city was incorporated in 1887.
