Tennyson Summary

Tennyson is a small town located in Warrick County, Indiana. It is situated on the banks of the Wabash River, about 20 miles east of Evansville. The town was founded in 1837 and named after the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The population of Tennyson was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Tennyson is located at 38°14'25"N 87°25'45"W (38.240278, -87.429167). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
The town is located on the banks of the Wabash River, which is a major tributary of the Ohio River. The Wabash River is a major source of recreation for the town, with fishing, boating, and swimming being popular activities.

Economy

The economy of Tennyson is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 298 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,817.3 people per square mile (700.7/km2). There were 471 housing units at an average density of 781.7 per square mile (301.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
