History

Sheridan was founded in 1832 by William and Mary Sheridan. The town was named after the Sheridans, who were among the first settlers in the area. The town was originally known as Sheridan Station, as it was a stop on the Indianapolis and Bellefontaine Railroad. The railroad was built in 1852 and ran from Indianapolis to Bellefontaine, Ohio.
In 1871, the town was incorporated as the Town of Sheridan. The town was a major stop on the railroad and was a popular destination for travelers. The town was also known for its many churches, including the First Presbyterian Church, which was founded in 1871.
