Richland Summary

Richland, Indiana is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of LaPorte. It is situated on the banks of the Little Calumet River, and is part of the Michigan City-LaPorte Metropolitan Statistical Area. Richland is a rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Richland was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was originally called Richland Center, and was named after the nearby Richland Creek. The town was incorporated in 1867, and the name was changed to Richland. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and oats. In the late 19th century, the town began to grow and develop, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving community.

Geography

Richland is located in the northwest corner of Indiana, in LaPorte County. It is situated on the banks of the Little Calumet River, and is part of the Michigan City-LaPorte Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland, and is located about 25 miles from the city of South Bend. The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
