Osgood Summary

Osgood is a small town located in Ripley County, Indiana, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 30 miles southeast of Cincinnati, Ohio. The population of Osgood was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Osgood was founded in 1818 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the first settler, John Osgood. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the production of furniture and other wood products. In 1845, the first post office was established in Osgood.
In the late 19th century, Osgood became a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to the Ohio River. The town was home to several resorts, including the Osgood Hotel, which was built in 1891. The hotel was a popular destination for visitors from Cincinnati and other nearby cities.
