Lawrenceburg, Indiana is a city located in Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 50 miles west of Cincinnati, Ohio. The population was 5,042 at the 2010 census. Lawrenceburg is the county seat of Dearborn County.

History

The area that is now Lawrenceburg was first settled in 1796 by William Lawrence, who had purchased the land from the United States government. The town was platted in 1803 and was named after Lawrence. Lawrenceburg was incorporated as a town in 1816 and as a city in 1867.

Geography

Lawrenceburg is located at 39°7′25″N 84°51′2″W (39.123611, -84.850556). According to the 2010 census, Lawrenceburg has a total area of 4.9 square miles (12.7 km2), of which 4.8 square miles (12.5 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

Economy

Lawrenceburg is home to several industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and retail. The city is also home to the Hollywood Casino, which opened in 2008. The casino has become a major employer in the area, providing jobs to over 1,000 people.

The racial makeup of the city was 95.2% White, 1.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.94.
