Hymera Summary

Hymera is a small town located in Sullivan County, Indiana, United States. It is situated in the Wabash Valley region of the state, approximately 10 miles south of Terre Haute. The population of Hymera was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Hymera was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the nearby Hymera Creek, which was named after a Native American chief. The first post office was established in 1872.
In 1876, the first school was built in Hymera. The town was incorporated in 1883. In the late 19th century, Hymera was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
