Hartsville Summary

Hartsville is a small town located in the state of Indiana, in the United States. It is situated in the southeastern part of the state, in the county of Tippecanoe. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is part of the Lafayette metropolitan area.

History

Hartsville was founded in 1837 by William Hart, a settler from Ohio. He purchased the land from the government and began to build a small village. The town was named after him, and it quickly grew in size and population. By the late 1800s, Hartsville had become a thriving community, with a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a gristmill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the early 1900s, the town experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The railroad arrived in Hartsville in 1906, and the town became a major shipping center for the surrounding area. The railroad also brought new businesses and industries to the town, including a brickyard, a furniture factory, and a canning factory.
In the 1950s, Hartsville began to decline. The railroad stopped running, and many of the businesses and industries closed. The population of the town began to decline as well, and by the 1970s, the town had become a small, quiet community.

Geography

Hartsville is located in the southeastern part of Indiana, in the county of Tippecanoe. The town is situated on the banks of the Wabash River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town is located about 25 miles south of Lafayette, and about 50 miles north of Indianapolis.
The climate in Hartsville is humid continental, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual temperature is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average annual precipitation is around 40 inches.
