Galveston Summary

Galveston, Indiana is a small town located in Cass County, Indiana. It is situated on the banks of the Wabash River, approximately 30 miles north of Lafayette. The town was founded in 1836 and was named after the city of Galveston, Texas. The population of Galveston was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Galveston is located at 40°41'25"N 86°37'17"W (40.690278, -86.621389). According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.
Galveston is located in the Wabash Valley, which is part of the Central Lowland physiographic region. The Wabash River forms the western boundary of the town. The town is located on the western edge of the Tippecanoe River watershed.

Economy

The economy of Galveston is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including the Galveston Farms, which produces corn, soybeans, and wheat. The town is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,541.7 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 817 housing units at an average density of 681.3 per square mile (263.3/km2).
