History

Dillsboro was founded in 1845 by William Dills, a local farmer. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1867. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a center for the lumber industry. The town was also home to a number of mills, including a sawmill, a gristmill, and a woolen mill.
