Seminole Summary
Seminole, Florida is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 17,233 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area.
Geography
Seminole is located at 27°51'25" North, 82°45'17" West (27.856944, -82.754722). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 8.1 square miles (21.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) (1.17%) is water.
History
Seminole was originally inhabited by the Tocobaga people, a Native American tribe. The area was first settled by European Americans in the late 19th century. The city was incorporated in 1970.

Seminole is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several large employers, including Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Raymond James Financial, and BayCare Health System.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 17,233 people, 7,845 households, and 4,845 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,118.3 people per square mile (817.7/km2). There were 8,845 housing units at an average density of 1,093.3 per square mile (422.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 4.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.7% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.2% of the population.
There were 7,845 households, out of which 22.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.71.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 19.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,945, and the median income for a family was $50,945. Males had a median income of $37,857 versus $27,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $22,945. About 5.2% of families and 7.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.7% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.
