Pinellas Park Summary
Pinellas Park is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 49,079 at the 2010 census. The city is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, the 19th largest metropolitan area in the United States.
Geography
Pinellas Park is located at 27°51′N 82°41′W (27.851, -82.683). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.2 square miles (39.4 km2), of which 14.9 square miles (38.6 km2) is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2) (1.90%) is water.
History
Pinellas Park was founded in the late 19th century by Philadelphia publisher F.A. Davis, who purchased the land from the local Seminole Indians. The city was incorporated in 1914 and has grown steadily since then.
Economy
Pinellas Park is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The city is also home to several large employers, including Raymond James Financial, Jabil Circuit, and Tech Data Corporation.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 49,079 people, 20,845 households, and 13,945 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,286.3 people per square mile (1,269.2/km2). There were 22,845 housing units at an average density of 1,527.2 per square mile (590.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 8.3% African American, 0.4% Native American, 3.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 5.7% from other races, and 3.1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.2% of the population.
There were 20,845 households, out of which 24.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 20.7% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $41,939, and the median income for a family was $50,890. Males had a median income of $36,853 versus $27,878 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.2% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.
