Paisley Summary

Paisley is a small town located in Lake County, Florida, United States. It is situated on the western shore of Lake Eustis, approximately 20 miles northwest of Orlando. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census.

History

Paisley was founded in 1883 by William Paisley, a former Confederate soldier. He named the town after his hometown of Paisley, Scotland. The town was incorporated in 1887 and was the first incorporated town in Lake County.
In the early 1900s, Paisley was a thriving agricultural community. The town was known for its citrus groves and vegetable farms. In the 1920s, the town began to grow as a tourist destination. The town was home to several resorts, including the Paisley Inn, which was built in 1925.

Geography

Paisley is located at 28°51'N 81°45'W (28.851, -81.75). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Paisley's economy is largely based on tourism and agriculture. The town is home to several resorts, including the Paisley Inn, which was built in 1925. The town is also home to several citrus groves and vegetable farms.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,890 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,567.2 people per square mile (604.7/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 699.2 per square mile (270.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.37% White, 0.37% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.17% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.02.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,938, and the median income for a family was $36,250. Males had a median income of $27,500 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,945.
