Haswell Summary
Haswell is a small town located in Cheyenne County, Colorado, United States. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the state, approximately 25 miles east of the Colorado-Wyoming border. The town was founded in 1887 and is named after the Haswell family, who were among the first settlers in the area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Haswell was 545.
Geography
Haswell is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and State Highway 59. It is situated in the High Plains region of Colorado, at an elevation of 4,717 feet above sea level. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies, with the closest mountain range being the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, located approximately 50 miles to the south. The climate in Haswell is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters.
History
The area around Haswell was first settled by the Haswell family in 1887. The family established a homestead and began farming the land. In 1890, the town was officially established and named after the Haswell family. The town quickly grew, and by 1900, it had a population of over 500.
In the early 1900s, Haswell was a thriving agricultural community, with many of its residents working in the local farms and ranches. The town also had a number of businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a general store, and a post office.
