Arizona City is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Pinal County, Arizona, United States. The population was 10,475 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area.

History

Arizona City was founded in 1964 by developer Del Webb. The town was originally planned as a retirement community, but has since become a bedroom community for the nearby cities of Casa Grande and Phoenix.

Economy

Arizona City is home to a variety of businesses, including a Walmart Supercenter, a Lowe's Home Improvement store, and a variety of restaurants and retail stores. The town is also home to a number of industrial and manufacturing businesses, including a copper smelter and a cement plant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 8,033 people, 2,845 households, and 2,092 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 962.3 people per square mile (371.3/km2). There were 3,093 housing units at an average density of 372.3 per square mile (143.7/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 75.2% White, 0.7% African American, 1.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 19.2% from other races, and 3.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 37.2% of the population.
There were 2,845 households, out of which 37.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.25.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $32,813, and the median income for a family was $36,944. Males had a median income of $30,917 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,845. About 11.2% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
