Parrish Summary

Parrish is a small town located in Walker County, Alabama. It is situated on the banks of the Black Warrior River, about 20 miles northwest of Birmingham. The town was founded in 1887 and was named after the Parrish family, who were early settlers in the area. The population of Parrish was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Parrish is located at 33°45'25" North, 87°20'45" West (33.756944, -87.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Parrish is a small town with a limited economy. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The town also has a few manufacturing plants, including a paper mill and a furniture factory.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (595.2/km2). There were 845 housing units at an average density of 708.3 per square mile (273.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 17.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
