Mcintosh, Alabama is a small town located in Washington County, Alabama. It is situated on the banks of the Tombigbee River, about 25 miles south of Mobile. The town was founded in 1818 and named after General Lachlan McIntosh, a Revolutionary War hero. The population of Mcintosh was 1,845 in the 2010 census.

Geography

Mcintosh is located at 31°14'25" North, 88°10'25" West (31.240278, -88.173611). It is situated on the banks of the Tombigbee River, about 25 miles south of Mobile. The town is located in the southern part of Washington County, and is bordered by the towns of McIntosh, Fruitdale, and Wagarville. The town has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.

Climate

Mcintosh has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is 64°F, with an average high of 81°F in July and an average low of 46°F in January. The average annual precipitation is 56 inches, with the wettest month being July, when an average of 6.7 inches of rain falls.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 717 households, and 486 families residing in Mcintosh. The population density was 837.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 18.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.

There were 717 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 16.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.3% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.06.
