Kennedy is located at 33°59'45" North, 86°37'45" West (33.9958, -86.6292). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
The town is situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and is surrounded by rolling hills and forests. The terrain is mostly hilly, with some flat areas. The town is located near the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River.

Climate

Kennedy has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is 64°F, with an average high of 87°F in July and an average low of 41°F in January. The average annual precipitation is 56 inches, with the most occurring in the months of April and May.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 837.5 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 95.2% White, 2.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.99.
The median age in the town was 41.2 years. 22.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.2% were from 25 to 44; 28.2% were from 45 to 64; and 16.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 48.2% male and 51.8% female.

The economy of Kennedy is largely based on agriculture and forestry. The town is home to several farms, as well as a sawmill and a lumber company. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
