Cuba Summary

Cuba is a small town located in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Escambia River, approximately 10 miles north of Atmore. The population of Cuba was estimated to be 545 in 2019.

History

Cuba was founded in 1819 by settlers from the Creek Nation. The town was named after the island of Cuba, which was then a Spanish colony. The town was incorporated in 1821.
In the early 1900s, Cuba was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and a hotel.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as the local economy shifted away from agriculture. The town's population decreased from a peak of 1,000 in the 1940s to just over 500 in the 2000s.

Cuba's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including a dairy farm, a poultry farm, and a hog farm. The town also has a sawmill and a gristmill.
