Butler is a small town located in Choctaw County, Alabama. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, about 40 miles east of Mobile. The town was founded in 1819 and named after William Butler, a prominent local landowner. The population of Butler was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Butler is located at 31°25'25" North, 88°14'45" West (31.423, -88.246). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), all land.
