Geography
Brent is located at 33°7'25" North, 87°7'25" West (33.123611, -87.123611). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.2 square miles (13.4 km2), all land.
History
Brent was founded in 1881 by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. The town was named after a railroad official, William Brent. The town was incorporated in 1887.
Economy
The economy of Brent is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large manufacturing plants, including a Tyson Foods poultry processing plant and a Georgia-Pacific paper mill. The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and service providers.

As of the census of 2010, there were 3,945 people, 1,541 households, and 1,072 families residing in the city. The population density was 762.5 people per square mile (294.3/km2). There were 1,717 housing units at an average density of 331.7 per square mile (128.1/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 68.2% White, 28.7% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,541 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 20.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.2 males.
