Piedmont Summary

Piedmont is a small town located in Mineral County, West Virginia. It is situated in the Appalachian Mountains, and is part of the Cumberland Plateau. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is located near the Potomac River.

History

Piedmont was founded in 1872 by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. The town was named after the Piedmont region of Italy, which was the birthplace of the railroad's president, John W. Garrett. The town was originally a coal mining town, and the railroad was used to transport the coal to other parts of the country.
In the early 1900s, the town began to experience a decline in the coal industry, and many of the residents moved away. However, the town was able to survive due to its proximity to the Potomac River, which provided a source of income for the townspeople.
In the 1950s, the town experienced a resurgence in the coal industry, and the population began to grow again. The town also began to attract tourists, as it was located near the Potomac River and the Appalachian Mountains.
