Troy was first settled in 1764 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. The town was originally known as “Troytown”, and was incorporated in 1776. The town was named after the ancient city of Troy, in what is now Turkey.

Troy is located in southwestern New Hampshire, in the foothills of the White Mountains. The town is situated on the banks of the Contoocook River, and is bordered by the towns of Fitzwilliam, Rindge, and Jaffrey.
The town has a total area of 24.2 square miles, of which 24.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The highest point in the town is the summit of Mount Monadnock, at 3,165 feet.

Troy’s economy is primarily based on agriculture and tourism. The town is home to several small farms, which produce a variety of crops, including apples, potatoes, and hay. The town is also home to several small businesses, including a general store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
