Raymond Summary

Raymond, New Hampshire is a small town located in Rockingham County, in the southeastern part of the state. It is bordered by the towns of Epping, Fremont, and Candia. The town has a population of 10,138, according to the 2010 census.

Geography

Raymond is located in the southeastern part of New Hampshire, in Rockingham County. It is bordered by the towns of Epping, Fremont, and Candia. The town has a total area of 24.2 square miles, of which 24.1 square miles is land and 0.1 square miles is water. The highest point in Raymond is the summit of Raymond Hill, at an elevation of 545 feet. The town is drained by the Lamprey River, which flows through the center of town.

History

Raymond was first settled in 1764 by settlers from nearby Exeter. The town was originally part of Chester, but was incorporated as its own town in 1764. The town was named after Captain William Raymond, a local military leader who fought in the French and Indian War.
