Bradford Summary

Bradford, New Hampshire is a small town located in Merrimack County, in the southern part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Merrimack River, and is bordered by the towns of Warner, New London, and Salisbury. The town has a population of approximately 2,500 people, and is part of the Concord Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Bradford was first settled in 1764 by a group of settlers from Massachusetts. The town was originally known as “New Chester”, and was incorporated in 1790. The town was named after William Bradford, who was the Governor of the Plymouth Colony in the 1620s.
The town was an important center of industry in the 19th century, with several mills and factories located in the area. The most important of these was the Bradford Woolen Mill, which was established in 1820 and was one of the largest woolen mills in the country. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1871, but was rebuilt and continued to operate until the early 20th century.

Bradford is located in the southern part of Merrimack County, and is bordered by the towns of Warner, New London, and Salisbury. The highest point in the town is the summit of Mount Kearsarge, which has an elevation of 1,937 feet.
