Saucier Summary

Saucier is a small town located in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. It is situated approximately 20 miles northeast of Gulfport and Biloxi, and is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Saucier was 2,945 at the 2010 census.

History

Saucier was founded in 1892 by the Saucier family, who had moved to the area from Louisiana. The town was named after the family, and the first post office was established in 1894. The town was incorporated in 1906.
In the early 1900s, Saucier was a thriving agricultural community, with cotton, corn, and sweet potatoes being the main crops. The town also had a sawmill, a grist mill, and a syrup mill.
In the 1950s, Saucier began to experience a population boom, as people moved to the area to take advantage of the booming oil industry. The town was also home to a number of manufacturing plants, including a paper mill and a furniture factory.

Geography

Saucier is located at 30°25'25" North, 89°14'45" West (30.423, -89.246). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.2 square miles, all of it land.

Economy

Saucier's economy is largely based on the oil and gas industry. The town is home to several oil and gas companies, including Chevron, Shell, and BP. The town is also home to a number of manufacturing plants, including a paper mill and a furniture factory.

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,945 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the town. The population density was 703.3 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 17.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.7% of the population.
