Flora Summary

Flora, Mississippi is a small town located in Madison County, Mississippi. It is situated about 20 miles north of Jackson, the state capital. The town was founded in 1856 and was named after the daughter of the first postmaster, William H. Flora. The population of Flora was 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

Geography

Flora is located at 32°20'45" North, 90°7'45" West (32.3458, -90.1292). It is situated in the northern part of Madison County, about 20 miles north of Jackson, the state capital. The town is located in the Central Mississippi Alluvial Plain, which is characterized by flat terrain and fertile soils. The town is bordered by the Big Black River to the east and the Pearl River to the west.

Economy

Flora’s economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several large farms, including the Flora Farms, which produces cotton, soybeans, corn, and wheat. Other crops grown in the area include hay, sorghum, and peanuts. The town is also home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.
