Geography

Jones County is located in the southeastern region of Mississippi, and is bordered by Covington County to the north, Jasper County to the east, Perry County to the south, and Forrest County to the west. The county covers an area of 576 square miles, of which 574 square miles is land and 2 square miles is water. The terrain of the county is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part of the county. The county is drained by the Leaf River, which flows through the center of the county.
The county is home to several state parks, including Paul B. Johnson State Park, which is located in the northern part of the county and offers camping, fishing, and hiking. The county is also home to the Black Creek Wildlife Management Area, which is located in the western part of the county and is a popular destination for hunting and fishing.
