Belmont Summary

Belmont, Mississippi is a small town located in Tishomingo County in the northeastern corner of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River, and is part of the larger Tupelo-Corinth-Booneville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is known for its rural charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Belmont was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the nearby Belmont Plantation, which was owned by the prominent local family of the same name. The town quickly grew, and by the mid-19th century, it was a thriving agricultural center. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
