History

Crawfordville was founded in 1818 and named after William H. Crawford, the Secretary of War under President James Madison. The town was originally known as "The Forks of the St. Marks" because it was located at the confluence of the St. Marks and Wakulla Rivers. The town was incorporated in 1832 and was the county seat of Wakulla County.
In the early 1900s, Crawfordville was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
