Severance Summary

Severance is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, approximately 10 miles north of Greeley and 45 miles northeast of Denver. The town was founded in 1906 and incorporated in 1917. As of the 2010 census, the population of Severance was 1,062.

Severance was founded in 1906 by a group of settlers from Nebraska. The town was named after the Severance family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1917 and was primarily an agricultural community. In the early 1900s, Severance was home to a number of businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a post office.
In the 1950s, Severance began to experience a population boom as people moved to the area to take advantage of the oil and gas industry. This growth continued into the 1960s and 1970s, when Severance became a bedroom community for Greeley and Fort Collins.

Geography

Severance is located in Weld County, Colorado, at an elevation of 5,000 feet. The town is situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, approximately 10 miles north of Greeley and 45 miles northeast of Denver. The town is bordered by the Cache la Poudre River to the east and the South Platte River to the west.
The town has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The town is located in a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold winters.
