History

Crawford was founded in 1881 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The town was named after William H. Crawford, a former U.S. Senator from Georgia. The town quickly grew and became an important center for the region’s agricultural industry. In the early 1900s, Crawford was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a general store, and a post office.
In the late 1950s, Crawford began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. However, in recent years, the town has seen a resurgence in population as people have moved back to the area in search of a more rural lifestyle.
