Shoshoni Summary

Shoshoni, Wyoming is a small town located in Fremont County, Wyoming. It is situated in the Wind River Valley, approximately 20 miles south of Riverton. The town was founded in 1906 and was named after the Shoshone Native American tribe. The population of Shoshoni was 590 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area around Shoshoni was first inhabited by the Shoshone Native American tribe. The tribe had lived in the area for centuries before the arrival of white settlers. The first white settlers arrived in the area in the late 1800s. The town of Shoshoni was founded in 1906 and was named after the Shoshone tribe.
The town was originally a farming and ranching community. In the early 1900s, the town was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a general store, and a post office. The town also had a school and a church.
In the 1920s, the town began to experience a period of growth. The population increased from around 200 in 1920 to over 500 by 1930. This growth was due to the discovery of oil in the area. The oil industry brought jobs and money to the town, and it also attracted new businesses and residents.
