Meeteetse Summary

Meeteetse, Wyoming is a small town located in Park County, Wyoming, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Absaroka Mountains, approximately 40 miles west of Cody. The town was founded in 1886 and has a population of approximately 400 people.

History

Meeteetse was founded in 1886 by ranchers and miners who were drawn to the area by the abundance of natural resources. The town was named after the nearby Meeteetse Creek, which was named by the Shoshone Indians who lived in the area. The town quickly grew and by 1890, it had a population of over 500 people.
The town was an important stop on the stagecoach route between Cody and Thermopolis, and it was also a major hub for the cattle industry. In the early 1900s, Meeteetse was home to several saloons, hotels, and stores.
In the late 1800s, Meeteetse was the site of a major gold rush. The gold rush brought thousands of prospectors to the area, and the town quickly grew. However, the gold rush was short-lived, and by the early 1900s, the town had returned to its original size.

Meeteetse is located in Park County, Wyoming, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Absaroka Mountains, approximately 40 miles west of Cody. The town is located at an elevation of 5,890 feet above sea level.
