Lingle Summary

Lingle is a town located in Goshen County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 845 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Goshen County.

History

Lingle was founded in 1887 by the Union Pacific Railroad. The town was named after a railroad official, Charles Lingle. The town was incorporated in 1901.

Economy

The economy of Lingle is largely based on agriculture and ranching. The town is home to several large farms and ranches, as well as a number of small businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 845 people, 339 households, and 229 families residing in the town. The population density was 945.2 people per square mile (364.3/km2). There were 393 housing units at an average density of 437.2 per square mile (168.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.06% White, 0.12% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.18% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.36% of the population.
There were 339 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 7.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
