Elk Mountain, Wyoming is a small town located in Carbon County, Wyoming. It is situated at the base of the Elk Mountain Range, which is part of the Medicine Bow Mountains. The town is located at an elevation of 6,845 feet and has a population of approximately 200 people.
History
The town of Elk Mountain was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and raise their families. The town was named after the nearby Elk Mountain Range. The town was originally a mining town, with the main industry being coal mining. The coal mines provided jobs for many of the town’s residents.
In the early 1900s, the town began to grow and prosper. The town had a post office, a school, a hotel, and several stores. The town also had a newspaper, the Elk Mountain Times, which was published from 1908 to 1912.
