Montgomery Summary

Montgomery, Louisiana is a small town located in the northern part of the state, in the heart of the Red River Valley. It is situated on the banks of the Red River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and lush forests. The town has a population of just over 1,000 people, and is the seat of Montgomery County.

History

Montgomery was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Natchitoches. The town was named after General Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary War hero. The town quickly grew, and by the late 19th century, it had become a thriving agricultural center. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a cotton gin, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
In the early 20th century, Montgomery began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. The town was also affected by the Great Depression, and many of its businesses closed. However, the town was able to survive, and by the 1950s, it had begun to experience a resurgence.
