Mangham Summary

Mangham is a small town located in Richland Parish, Louisiana. It is situated on the banks of the Ouachita River, approximately 20 miles northeast of Monroe. The town was founded in 1883 and named after the Mangham family, who were early settlers in the area. The population of Mangham was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Mangham is located at 32°25'25" North, 91°45'45" West (32.423, -91.7625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all land.

Economy

Mangham is a small rural town with a limited economy. The main industries in the area are agriculture and timber. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,093 people, 431 households, and 287 families residing in the town. The population density was 908.3 people per square mile (351.2/km2). There were 486 housing units at an average density of 405.8 per square mile (156.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 19.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 431 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.14.
