Greensburg Summary

Greensburg is a town in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,719 at the 2010 census. It is the parish seat of St. Helena Parish.

History

Greensburg was founded in 1810 by William Green, a planter from Virginia. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1817. It was the first town in St. Helena Parish.
Greensburg was the site of a major battle during the Civil War. On April 8, 1863, Confederate forces under General Richard Taylor defeated Union forces under General Nathaniel Banks. The battle was a major victory for the Confederacy and helped to secure the area for the remainder of the war.
