Boyce Summary

Boyce is a small town located in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. It is situated on the banks of the Red River, approximately 10 miles south of Alexandria. The town has a population of 1,092 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Boyce was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of French-speaking settlers from Canada. The town was originally known as “La Petite Prairie”, and was later renamed “Boyce” in honor of a local landowner, William Boyce. The town was officially incorporated in 1883.
In the late 19th century, Boyce was a thriving agricultural community, with cotton, corn, and sugar cane being the main crops. The town also had a sawmill, a gristmill, and a cotton gin.
In the early 20th century, the town began to decline as the railroad bypassed it and the population began to move away. The town was nearly abandoned by the 1950s, but was revitalized in the 1970s when the Red River was dammed and the area became a popular recreational destination.

Boyce is located in the Red River Valley, which is part of the Central Louisiana region. The town is situated on the banks of the Red River, approximately 10 miles south of Alexandria. The town is surrounded by rolling hills and is located in a rural area.
