Shingletown Summary

Shingletown is an unincorporated community located in Shasta County, California, United States. It is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Range, approximately 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Redding. The population was 1,223 at the 2010 census.

History

Shingletown was founded in 1852 by a group of miners who were searching for gold. The town was named after the abundance of shingle trees in the area. The first post office was established in 1854.
In the late 19th century, Shingletown was a popular destination for tourists, who came to enjoy the area's natural beauty and outdoor activities. The town was also home to a number of resorts, including the Shingletown Hotel, which was built in 1891.

Shingletown is located at 40°25′N 121°45′W (40.4167, -121.7500). It is situated in the foothills of the Cascade Range, approximately 40 miles (64 km) northeast of Redding. The town is surrounded by the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
