Tillar Summary
Tillar is a small town located in Desha County, Arkansas. It is situated on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 20 miles south of Pine Bluff. The town was founded in 1883 and was named after the Tillar family, who were early settlers in the area. The population of Tillar was 545 at the 2010 census.
Geography
Tillar is located at 34°37'25" North, 91°25'45" West (34.623861, -91.429167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.
Economy
Tillar's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, including cotton, soybean, and rice farms. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 145 families residing in the town. The population density was 776.4 people per square mile (300.2/km2). There were 233 housing units at an average density of 331.4 per square mile (127.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 68.2% White, 28.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 3.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
