Springdale Summary

Springdale, Arkansas is a city located in the northwest corner of the state, in Washington County. It is the fourth-largest city in Arkansas, with a population of 76,899 as of the 2019 census. The city is part of the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is the state’s third-largest metropolitan area.

History

The area that is now Springdale was first settled in the 1840s by German and Irish immigrants. The city was officially incorporated in 1876, and was named after the nearby spring. The city grew rapidly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, due to the arrival of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway in 1881. The city was also home to a number of manufacturing plants, including the Ralston Purina Company, which opened a plant in the city in the early 1900s.

Geography

Springdale is located in the northwest corner of Arkansas, in Washington County. It is situated in the Ozark Mountains, and is bordered by the cities of Fayetteville, Rogers, and Bentonville. The city covers an area of 33.2 square miles, and has an elevation of 1,072 feet.

Springdale has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is 63.2°F, and the average annual precipitation is 48.3 inches.

Springdale’s economy is largely based on manufacturing and retail. The city is home to a number of large companies, including Tyson Foods, J.B. Hunt, and Walmart. The city is also home to a number of smaller businesses, including restaurants, shops, and other services.
